Language is a characteristic humans have developed and language acquisition beings as an infant younger than 12 months of age and develops throughout the life stages. Language acquisition has numerous of stages but the main two stages are the pre-linguistic and the linguistic stage. Babbling 6-13 months Reduplicated babbling occurs as the sounds the child use will be repeated. An example of this will be (dada). The linguistic stage consists of six periods which are the early one word, one word stage otherwise known as the holophrastic stage, two word, three word, four word and the complex utterance. The linguistic stage begins as the one word stage appears, this commonly occurs around 12 months of age this is when babbling and the formation of the first word go hand in hand. The stages have no clear boundaries as well as each stage overlap one another but the they are not all the same length as it depends on the individual, as every individual learns at a different pace (Handke, 2012).
