Baby’s Day Out (1994) is a comedy that directed by Patrick Johnson, which talks about how a 9 months old baby, Bink, who is from a wealth family that abducted by kidnappers and successfully escaped from them for a “day trip” by himself in the New York City, and later reunites with his family. As a comedy, such dangerous scenes during the baby’s journey are not “funny” and make me feel nervous about, but the movie does reflect certain “typical” behaviors of a 9 months old infant. Specifically, many scenarios of the movie accurately reflect that how certain caregiver’s behaviors would stimulate infant development, and baby Bink’s behaviors reflect certain developmental stages of a nine-month-old infant, including motor, cognitive, language as well as social developments.
At the beginning of the movie, Baby Bink’s mother is reading him a pictured story book which called Baby’s Day Out, which is his favorite book that talks about a baby experience of a day journey to explore attractions in the city. In the movie, baby Bink is able to relate similar things of the real world to the book’s, which reflects that storytelling is a way to stimulate cognitive development.
