For me, the reading and comprehension isn't that difficult. Its more of learning who is who. For example, when someone is talking with no quotation at the end, its hard for me understand who is talking. Throughout the year of 2017-2018, I need to find a way to keep track of all the characters and understand who is who. This will help me later in the future while I am reading harder books for literature.
As a reader one has to know what to look for and identify the main idea and understand what the author is trying to argue. Before taking Writing 10 I felt I was a good reader and able to identify the main idea in a prompt, but little did I really know. After going through the research process and trying to identify reliable sources I have essentially cut out the unnecessary information and I go straight to the idea or argument being made by the author. As of before, I would focus on every detail of the writing. Having been assigned readings and having discussions about the readings during class, I soon realized that writing is about an argument being made with supporting evidence.
In the article by Hass and Flower they discuss how important rhetorical reading is in the way we construct meaning. I agree with them I believe it is important to have a better understanding of what you are reading. While I am someone who is guilty of just getting through a reading to paraphrase I do sometimes struggle with reading between the lines. Something Hass and Flower mentioned that I feel is important in this article is how reading is connected with the way we write. Hass and Flower go on to say that experienced readers understand both reading and writing are context-rich, situational, constructive acts and many students see reading and writing as information exchange.(Pg426)Therefore

The most difficult text based on this assignment was “How I Learned to Read and Write” by Frederick Douglas. Comparing all the text given, Frederick Douglas’s writing was more “wordy”. He seems to express his feeling, thoughts and emotions in complex abstracts that are very hard to follow. The vocabulary words used are more complicated – such as, commence – which leaves me no option than to open the dictionary. He often uses the word “commence” which means “start”.
Even though I still struggle with a reading, I become better than before. I have more confidence to ask when I need or want to know the words. Reading give straight and opens the mind. I expect to be a better reader and writer. Reading is the key to filling and empty
When it comes to writing a paper, letter, thank you card, etc., it is difficult for me. The reasons why writing is hard for me is because, a lot of times when I write I get distracted by, other people, thinking about something else on my mind, instead of what I am writing, finishing up my chores, etc. Also, when I write my grammar is incorrect, for example, pronoun errors. In other words, “Everybody don’t care if they hate it or not.” That was wrong, but the correct way to write it is, “Everybody don’t care if he or she hates it or not.”
I should have been opened up my eyes to reading and writing because I want to be a teacher, assistant. I always liked working with kids, and I will like to be a great assistant. Since there's no way to become a teacher assistant or even a teacher without having reading and writing skills, I will have to read and write more often. It is like King says "If you want to be a writer, you must do to things above all others: Read a lot and write a lot" (72, 73). If I want to be a teacher assistant or maybe a teacher one day I must ameliorate my reading and writing.

I was fortunate enough to see what a difference it was to be literate, and not to be, so when I was able to see how many more opportunities reading and writing could give me, I threw myself into trying every way that I could to be the best. If I wanted something, then I couldn’t expect for it to be handed to me. This is why my debate career went hand-to-hand with my writing journey. Not only was I working tirelessly on reading every news article I could about current topics, but I was analysing them and finding their mistakes, as well as my own. I would construct arguments from my findings and go head to head with other students who were doing the same exact thing.
Reading and writing was one of my favorite activities to do as a kid, and it still is. Ever since I learned to read, I began to write short stories. Oh, how rude of me! I forgot to introduce myself. Hello Mr.Rase, my name’s Elena Serafimovski and I’m a writer in my junior year of high school.
