Once the sun was covered, “it was dark night.” The only light showing in the sky was the thin ring of light from the corona peering from behind the black circle that was the moon. Everything was dark and black and in what was supposed to be broad daylight, Dillard could see cars below her turning on their headlights. She later described the shadow that overcame them during the eclipse. She said that screams were heard from the hilltop, because of the unsettling speed and abruptness at which the shadow came over them.
People are continuously faced with difficult challenges and it takes a great deal of patience, persistence and perseverance in order to succeed, nonetheless, if one does not have the passion for what they are doing, they will not succeed. Daniel Daylight remained patient until the Kiwanis Music Festival to convey his message, that just like white people - Natives are human, and succeeds. “We are human. I knew it. And you know why I knew it, Mr. Tipper?”
In the 1930s, a large dust storm destroyed the southern plains in United States and the prairies of Canada. This storm by the name of the Dust Bowl lasted 8 years and also occurred during the time of the Great Depression. The Dust Bowl shook the agriculture and the economy. People could no longer breathe easily, everybody had to wear a mask. Walking, talking and eating had become very difficult.
At the start of Night Elie Wiesel's emotions went from Disbelief to Afraid. For example, at the start of the book “Night” on page 32, he said " I pinched myself: was I still alive? Was I awake? How was it possible that men, women, and children were being burned and that the world kept silent? My evidence supports my claim because at the start of the book Elie Wiesel is disbelief because he doesn't even know if he is really living or if it is a dream.
Many writers seem to write just to write, but isn’t there a meaning in all writing. Rather to persuade, to teach, or to argue a topic. There is no such writing that is just writing. Most writing is to make the reader feel connected and to be a part of the story. Writers want the reader to feel connected to the story because if there no connection then there is no story.

The word night can represent sleep and peacefulness, but it can also bring darkness and the unknown. The author of the book Night, Elie Wiesel, wrote about his traumatic experience as a teenage boy during the Holocaust. Wiesel chose the title Night because of the fear felt by the Jews which the word night symbolizes. Night symbolizes the fear because of the multiple times the Jews transfered location during night, the fear the prisoners experienced daily of what may happen to them and their family after hearing stories from fellow Jews, and the horrific killings and executions that happened throughout the memoir including the hanging of the young Pipel. The book focuses on the experiences Wiesel goes through during the Holocaust.
Aristotle wrote, “It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light (Aristotle)”. The Holocaust was one of the darkest times humanity has ever seen. A machination brewed by an extraordinarily perverse man that resulted in the deaths of millions, and robbed millions more of their faith and hope. Families were torn apart, towns were destroyed, and humanity lost, all to satisfy one man’s extreme racism and psychotic agenda. If however, one only chooses to focus on the darkness, they might overlook the light, specifically in the two stories of boys who survived against all odds and shared their tales years after defying death.
This is a picture of one of the selection process that is held when prisoners first arrive at a concentration camp. And, at Auschwitz they are usually headed by Joseph Mengele an infamous Nazi doctor. The woman and children are sent straight to the crematory and males younger than 18 and older than 50 are also sent there. This relates to Elie’s story because he went through the same selection process as well he and his father being questioned by Dr. Mengele in which he said he was 18 and his father said he was 30. This photo shows the prisoners of the concentration carrying lorries and working hard like automatons.
In Night by Elie Wiesel, the memoir ends abruptly with a description of Elie’s reflection. Elie had not seen his reflection since he was in the ghettos, so when he finally looks at himself in the mirror he views himself as a corpse. He uses the description of his appearance to show how he survived through the holocaust but he did not live through it. Living and surviving are very different ways of life. We see these changes through the action of crying.
“One more stab to the heart, one more reason to hate, one less reason to live” (66). The story “Night” was written by Elie Wiesel and was published in 1956. The story is about a young boy who is caught in the middle of the holocaust with his father. Throughout “Night”, one of the major themes were the difficult experiences Elie and his father had to go through. These moments are important because they show how Elie has changed throughout the story.
Elie Wiesel’s work, Night, published in 1958, demonstrates the struggles Jewish society and other minorities faced in order to live a life of liberty. I, myself, felt bound and trapped, but not by iron doors, but by words. Even though being open and social can help communication growth, rudeness and unnecessary judgement can hinder one’s ability to be social and make them feel like expressing themselves is not possible. August 21, 2010, as my mother pulled up to the side of Georgetown Middle School, I remember thinking “I hope Mrs. Hope gives me hope.” My blood was pounding from the adrenaline, and my stomach was in knots knowing that in a few moments, I would be taking my first steps into an unusual environment for the next three years.
One of the closing lines of Elie Wiesel’s memoir states, “ From the depths of the mirror, a corse gazed back at me” (page 109). This quote highlights the pain and suffereing Elie went through during the Holocaust. The Holocaust left Elie with many painful memories that he had the courage to write about and share in his memoir called Night. This book will always be important to society and humanity as a whole as it brought awarness to the issues and inequalites of the past. The title Night is especially important to the message Elie leaves with the reader.
“Our Vanishing Night” Thesis statement First and foremost, I’d like to exacerbate the thesis of the author. Klinkenborg argument is that we use too much light and it is dramatically affecting the sky above us by being less extravagant with its consolations, and various anomalies throughout the universe, and to solve this issue we must eliminate all unwanted light; including features such as, too much glare, or city lights becoming more spread out throughout the area. Furthermore, his full thesis statement is, “This kind of engineering is no different than damming a river. Its benefits come with consequences-called light pollution-whose effects scientist are now beginning to study”( 109 “Models for writers” paragraph 2) It is elaborated further,
This is one of the best examples of the use of light and dark imagery, as Shakespeare creates a visual picture to compare Juliet’s beauty to the light of the sun, but it also symbolizes the lover’s plight to remain together. Though they love each other so deeply, Juliet is the sun while Romeo is the moon; their fate enables them to be together briefly just as the celestial objects are only to meet at dawn and dusk successfully portraying their love. Romeo continues the inference of Juliet’s eyes to that of the light and beauty of the brightest of stars, when he states, " Two of the fairest stars in all the heaven, Having some business, do entreat her eyes
