Kyle Guimarin Mrs. Mary Smith AP Literature September 20, 2017 How to Read Literature like a Professor In the novel “How to Read Literature like a Professor,” Foster gives insights on how to spot and pick up on many common literary terms such as irony and symbolism by using a very relaxing tone and referencing many common novels that most readers can identify and relate to. The novel is very educational and can leave the reader asking many questions, and by the end the reader should be reading books and literature in a very different way than they have before. To start off, Foster uses many examples to show the reader how to pick up on the different types of irony and what it really means in a story.
When someone is guided in their literacy development and they are impacted in a positive way, they often can become more successful in the field of literacy, which can lead you to a successful life with good social standings, understandings, and power. When someone has what literacy scholar Deborah Brandt calls a “literacy sponsor” they will tend to become more successful in their experiences with literacy. Sponsors of literacy, according to Brandt, are beneficial because they are well educated, have experience in the field of literacy, and are willing to help others improve and let them into the world of literacy. Was there any time you wanted to take a risk, but were either too scared, or maybe when you did want to take a risk and you did it, but it didn't work out as you wanted it to? Or you may have taken a risk and it ended perfectly for you. When it comes to risks people do them daily especially when it comes to things such as getting treated unfairly or wanting to be dedicated to doing something. Some people have even made history by taking one of the biggest risks like, going to space, or escaping slave masters, or it can even be by learning. The authors used many different methods of media to explain to the reader about their story and took major risks and small risks.
The reading strategies we discussed in class and in the courses content made me a better reader by showing me many different ways to read and write and understand it very well. It uses all these methods such as the KWL charts, writing a memo and reading the novel I selected helping me improve my skills greatly to become a better reader. Putting together the reading, writing oral communication and examining media all connected in helping me become a good reader and helped me to comprehend the understanding of making a personal connection to the world around you. That 's what help 's you in the future to make the the best choices possible so that later on when you make a mistake in reading you can look at the experience you had and learn how to properly correct yourself because at the end of the day they all deal with different skill set 's but all help you to become better in everything you
Frances Ellen Watkins Harper, born on September 24, 1825, was a leading African American poet, author, teacher and political activist. Although she was born to “free” parents in Baltimore, Maryland, she still experienced her share of hardships. She lost her mother at the tender age of three, was raised by her aunt and uncle, and fully employed by thirteen. Though all odds seemed against her, she triumphed over her obstacles, publishing her first book of poetry at the of age twenty and her first novel at the age of sixty-seven. Outside of writing books, she was a civil rights leader and a public speaker in the Anti-Slavery Society.
Gold was discovered in California in the year of 1948. This discovery prompted many people to pack up and journey to the “Golden Mountains” in hopes of becoming rich. Although everyone was excited because of the gold, the economy was affected in other indirect manners as well. While many people became filthy rich and were living the dream, many did not. But it was the shortage of jobs in other areas that presented major opportunities.
Even though I still struggle with a reading, I become better than before. I have more confidence to ask when I need or want to know the words. Reading give straight and opens the mind. I expect to be a better reader and writer. Reading is the key to filling and empty
Reading Strategy File One #1: Before Reading Strategy Name of Strategy: Anticipation Guide Description of Strategy: Anticipation guides prepare students for a story or a text. Anticipation guides help to motivate students to read a story, build curiosity and help students predict what will happen in a text or a story before beginning to read it. Anticipation guides also help students to self-monitor their own interactions with a text or story.
In “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Readers” by Kavitha Rao, she express her opinion on the topic that the current generation is not reading for fun. She mentions several experience she had with other people, that don 't see the benefit in reading for fun. She says that since people aren 't reading more leisure anymore they 're becoming less creative, inarticulate, have poor communication skills and low confidence, which is caused by parents forcing their kids to read, and the education system need to have students memorize textbooks and nothing else. After reading this article I find myself disagreeing with Rao on several points she made, I don’t believe the modern attitude towards reading is causing people to be self absorbed and unimaginative, she also claims that book clubs don 't encourage reading for fun, parents are forcing their children to read boring books which turned them away from reading and that the educational system is to blame for college students for being inarticulate.
My relationship with literacy has been a journey all on its own. From learning how to sound out letters and words, to reading my first sentence , I have developed quite a valuable foundation and platform, that will eventually guide me to success. I have had the pleasure of experiencing a love that just continues to blossom. A love that will never fail, nor will I fail it. This love that I speak of is my passion for reading, writing and literacy as a whole.
All skills apart from the academic ones which are important to being a good teacher and demonstrates my willingness to go the extra mile. Studying and working in education has shown me that it is a challenging and rewarding career, but I believe my track record of dedication and hard work in both elements suggests that I can meet its demands. They take the time to know their students and know them well. They appreciate what attributes to each child’s story and take ownership of their role in the child’s life for that school year. I feel that I have the skills and attributes of an outstanding teacher because of the pride I take in the love and support I show my students and families. I know teachers have the power to make a lasting difference and I start every year with that mindset.
My experience as a reader isn 't as extraordinary as many, but I love to read. I had some great teachers throughout my education that taught me to enjoy reading challenge oneself and not be intimidated by it. Through college and today I do not have much time to read, other than school books speech, education ,and reading. Those are the sweet books I know read.
Reading is the act or skill of reading and Strategy is a plan of action made to reach a goal. Reading strategy is a decisive, intellectual action that an individual acquires when they are reading to help build and preserve meaning. There are two reading strategies that are used mostly in schools, colleges and technical institutions and are taught in communication and study skills course which is extensive reading and intensive reading. Extensive reading is the widening of knowledge of a pointed topic through large quantity reading. It is commonly used for knowing the country and the world as a whole which increases knowledge and widens our perspective though general understanding and pleasure.
