The essay I am going to discuss is about the free will that revolves around a trial of Leopold and Loeb.” In the case of Leopold and Loeb they committed a kidnapping and murder of a 14 year old named Bobby Franks. Leopold and Loeb picked up Bobby Franks from a street killed him and later buried him a drainpipe trying to destroy all the evidence”(Leopold and Loeb). However, their act of destroying all the evidence was not as smart as they thought. Later they ended up being caught for committing the murder of Bobby Franks. While destroying all the evidence they couldn’t destroy everything as when the body was found at the scene police easily traced the glasses. “At the trial they were found guilty and they confessed that both of them were the part of the crime but their defence lawyer used the mental competence at the trial to save them for the crime”(Leopold and Loeb). Their intentions behind the murder, their motive that they want to commit a perfect crime which could make the whole world to talk about the was convincing to believe that their actions were free as they had a motive behind everything. “Their lawyer’s defence at the trail that their crime was motivated by a mental illness and their upbringing didn’t seemed to convince the fact of perfect crime that was planned by Leopold and Loeb”(Leopold and Loeb).
