The parable of the sower details the different places seed had fallen when a farmer scattered it throughout his field. Some fell on the road and birds ate it, some quickly grew because the soil was shallow but were scorched in the sun, some landed within and were choked by thorn bushes, and some fell into good soil/ground and produced many plants. This parable, as do many others, spreads the message about the kingdom of God. The seeds in this story represent people, of whom have all heard the message. The different events that occur to each group of seed represent what occurs to different people. Satan snatches the message away from some people, just as the birds ate the seed, some accept the message right away but give up when faced with difficulty,
