Explain What Does Parliament Mean To Me Essay

When posed with the question of what Parliament means to me, I admittedly did not know how to formulate an answer. Nothing jumped out at me as I scrolled through images of Parliament Hill online. It was then that I decided to look to my memory for some inspiration. I remembered as a child I would visit my family in Ottawa and I would get excited as we approached the huge, green-roofed structures, thinking it was a castle. To me, Parliament represented an idea of royalty, as I thought that princesses roamed the halls, while an imaginary king and queen sat on big golden thrones, watching over the busy downtown streets from the top of the Hill. As I look back on my past ideas of the legislative buildings, I now realize that Parliament is so much more important than the structures themselves. Parliament truly represents democracy, opportunity, security and equality not only for myself, but for every other resident of our great country. When I think about Parliament, the first thing that comes to my mind is democracy. Personally, I have visited Parliament and toured inside it’s gates once this past November with a program called Encounters With Canada. Looking back at my time inside Parliament Hill, I recognize the vast learning opportunities and education that it provides for young adults like myself. I think it is wonderful that our own government willingly opens it’s doors for thousands of people like me each day, just to teach them about our country and how it is run. This gives proof that Canada cares about it’s citizens and wants them to be involved in the inner workings of our democratic
