The respiratory system brings in oxygen to the body, and it is circulated throughout the body via the blood in the circulatory system. The oxygen is a key ingredient in many cell processes, and without it, the body would fail. Oxygen is required for many processes in the body including making energy. 2- Why did land creatures have to develop a respiratory system in the first place? Land creatures have to develop a respiratory system in the first place so they can breathe and survive. The purpose of the respiratory system is to bring oxygen into the blood so it can distribute it to the body cells.
