If there is no claim, the writer has no topic they are trying to prove. James E. McWilliams claims that the locavore movement is not protecting the earth because there are multiple other factors that use energy and contribute to the hurting the earth. The author talks about the “other energy-hogging factors in food production” (McWilliams, 2009, ). The way McWilliams phrases the claim shows the reader he understands the topic on a deeper level and helps prove his assertion. Qualifiers help strengthen the argument and are used to make exceptions to the claim.
This layer of the Niobrara contains much evidence of life of vertebrates and aquatic life, including birds. The limestone layer is a thick layer of limestone separated from the chalk layer by shale. The limestone layer also contains many fossilized remains, but is best known for having marine reptiles that have been preserved rather well. The currents from the different seas as well as the draining of surface water into the seaway were important in the formations of these layers and the fossilization of marine life (Colorado Parks and
We walked along the beach a little more and talked and looked at the location of a whale skull that used to be buried in the sand. The rock was actually much smoother than . In the passage, the author claims that the Edmontosaurus migrated south in order to survive. However, the lecture refutes the view in the reading and argues that the arguments are not convincing. First of all, the passage establishes the view that Edmontosaurus diet drove them southward because there would have been no plants alive in the North Slope. By contrast, the professor in the lecture contends that Edmontosaur does not need to migrate to South to get food. Edmontosaur can get good quality of plants since it was 24 hours of sunshine during summer.
Title Researchers and scientists have constructed extensive research on dinosaur’s extinction. Speculation instead of real evidence seems common in most theories about the dinosaurs’ extinction. However, Jay Gould’s essay “Sex, Drugs, and the Extinction of Dinosaurs” is the complete opposite of speculation over evidence. In the article “Evolution as Fact and Theory” Stephen Jay Gould who is one of the leading theorists in evolution argues that the debate between evolutionists and creationists is pointless since creationists’ arguments lack support and evidence. Gould writes that creationists’ main argument is that evolution is only a theory. However, Gould states that it is not only a theory but also a fact. He suggests that humans evolved from apelike— whether or not is happened by Darwin’s mechanism. What Gould is saying is that there is more than enough evidence to support the theory of evolution and the question that scientists are trying to answer is how exactly all living organisms are linked.
