In the beginning, one of the myths that got my attention was that America did not become independent on July 4th of 1776. This day is one of the most important and remembered for us. However, the war continued for another 7 years before that England surrendered and then granted Independence to the U.S. on September 3th of 1783. Also, I read that the Continental Congress voted for independence on July 2nd. When John Adams wrote a letter to his wife Abigail, she predicted that in the future the people would celebrate July 2nd as independence day.
Thank you Veterans Veterans do a lot for us by defending our country and our home. We thank them by having a full day dedicated to our veterans. Three reasons that I think veterans should be thanked for are; going out to defend our country when no ones else does, I also want to thank you for demonstrating a great work ethic and doing all of this work for people you don’t even know. The first thing I want to thank you for was for defending our country.
Columbus Day should be celebrated because Columbus had done a lot to get to the point of sailing. According to documents 6 “ Christopher Columbus was the greatest, because he accomplished the most against the highest odds before Columbus ' time all European voyages had followed coastlines, or cross open seas to land previously known or at least cited by storm driven ships. Only Columbus set off directly across the board, unknown sea with no specific knowledge of how far an extended or what lay on the other side. “This is a Columbus went through a lot of odds to find Asia even though he landed in the Bahamas. This also shows that Columbus was the only one who didn 't get there by the storm.
I am extremely honored today to speak on behalf of the veterans of this nation and I would like to begin with a question. I’d like to ask what is one thing all veterans of this country have in common? Immediately several things pop into your mind. It may be that veterans have all known the hardships that are inherent in serving in the military…the long hours, the austere conditions, the continual duty of working every day in a combat zone, in dangerous conditions during a deployment, for months on end, for multiple tours. The separation from family and missing birthdays of your loved ones, absence during the holidays, long spells of not being in contact with your family.
Stores should not be open on thanksgiving/Black Friday. Even though It is very good for the stores to be open on Black Friday/Thanksgiving, stores should not be open on Thanksgiving because it affects lots of people by being open. People are very dangerous on Black Friday and there have been 7 deaths plus 98 injuries because of Black Friday. People are very dangerous on Black Friday.
First, I thought that Memorial Day was a simple day off from school. A day where families visit lost loved ones, but otherwise the day was just a day in a three day weekend, because it really did not apply to my family. Sometime last year, however, I was listening to my school’s announcements and realized that I wouldn’t be alive if it weren’t for the people that laid down their lives for the United States of America. This brought forth many new possibilities of where my mind could take me. I pondered the importance of Memorial Day.
Do you have a veteran in your family and live in Kentucky? If you do then you must be bamboozled when Veteran's Day rolls around and you don't get to spend the day with them and thank them for their services to this great nation and preserving our freedom. Less than 1% of Kentucky's schools are on a delay or canceled. You may ask "But this is Veteran's Day one of the most important days to our nation!?! Should schools really be on regular schedule?"
Whether it is having a moment of silence, or just thanking a veteran, it is important that we do something. They sacrificed a lot for us, and we need to show our appreciation. Memorial day and Veterans day get confused, Memorial day is honoring veterans who have passed away, Veterans day is to honor ALL veterans. They risked or even lost their lives for us and for our country. We need to show them that what they did for us
We celebrate Veterans Day every year on November 11th to honor the men and women who served and is still serving our wonderful country. We shouldn’t honor a veteran just once a year but everyday because they are protecting us everyday. When we say the pledge in the mornings we should be thinking about our veterans and what they did for us. Many veterans we get to still celebrate with and some were not so lucky and didn’t make it back home to their loved ones.

Ninety-eight years ago, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, an armistice was declared between Germany and the Allied Nations in World War I. One year later, it was celebrated as Armistice Day to honor the cause of world peace. After World War II and the Korean War, it was renamed Veterans Day, dedicated to American veterans from any war. The transition from Armistice Day to Veterans Day seems appropriate, for we would not have peace if we did not have veterans. But the implication that veterans are mere preservers of order is a vast misrepresentation; they do much more for our nation.
When citizens of the United States stare up at their national flag - the 13 stripes and the 50 stars that represent the freedom their ancestors fought tooth and nail for - they probably fail to remember the lessons they were taught in school about the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, and the world wars. In these wars, men fought for their country’s freedom, tossing their own life behind them. Should the country that is being protected by brave men and women ignore their efforts and their struggles? No, and if they were to, they would have to hold no pride for their country, and even less for the struggles of their ancestors. One way America honors veterans is Veteran’s Day.
The US has grappled with many questions about society’s obligations as to whether or not to offer services and benefits to the men and women in the armed forces. Supporters argue that helping veterans will help the society as whole and opponents argue that we shouldn’t be increasing our federal government spending in repaying veterans. Although I do see where people can argue that we are spending too much money on helping veterans after war, I believe that the government owes them for what they have done for the country, despite the cost. The government owes certain benefits to veterans because the men and women in the armed forces deserve to be welcomed home with a generous system of services for what they have done for the country. Helping veterans goes way back all the way to the 1600s.
It is a day that is set aside to remember and honor those who have died, according to the University of New Mexico. That day represents the day before Lent and is celebrated as well. Another notable day is September 16th, which marks Cinco de Mayo the day the Mexican Military had a victory over the French in 1862. Cinco de Mayo is also celebrated in the United States more than it is in Mexico.
I just want to thank our veterans for everything that they have done. In this essay I am going to write about what I am grateful for, how hard it is to be away from your family, the sacrifices that I think they have made, what they are doing for our country, and some facts. I think this will be a good topic for me because my great grandpa fought in World War 2. I will never forget him. So I hope you like it
