Freshman year can hit a teenager very hard in many ways. For some students, it is one of the easiest things in the world, but for other students it is life changing, and unbelievably challenging. Yes, college is not for everyone, but someone should not drop out of college because one’s mindset is simply thinking that it is too hard or not right for them without experiencing it for more than a week. The first week of school comes and there is a student stressing over classes and thinking about dropping out. Josh was a 4.0 student in high school, homecoming king, the one everyone knew. He could pass with straight A’s without ever cracking open a book and studying. School and learning came easy to him, or so he thought. After graduation, he thought college was going to be easy then college came and knocked his hopes down. He felt himself sinking and drowning in the pool called college, and could not find a way to save himself. Even the smartest and most talented people in the world have experienced failure. Roth says “Thomas Edison failed numerous times when trying to produce a light bulb, so many times that he famously said, “I have not failed. I’ve just found ten thousand ways that won’t work” (Roth). Failure is an everyday part of life. No matter how flawless and fault free one may view their life, failure will come to them, and the truly great individuals will rise above failure, and turn it into one of the greatest lessons of one’s life. Tracy says “When you feel that sinking, desperate sensation known as failure and you take it to heart, you diminish yourself” (Tracy).
