The significance of Christmas is rooted in the belief that the birth of Jesus was a miraculous event that brought hope and salvation to the world, and the holiday is an opportunity for Christians to reflect on the significance of Jesus' life and teachings.
There are 3,418,059,380 women in the world (Geohive.com, 2015) and yet, women, in 2010, got paid a staggering 19% difference in wage on a universal standpoint (Economist, 2011). Such contributing factors as this (wage), has created an overwhelming notion of gender inequality leading to such things as segregation in the workforce across the globe. Ethos is universally known as the ethical appeal, convincing one of a person’s character (Courses.durhamtech.edu, 2015). The staggering numbers of economic contributions of women compared to men has however, highlighted that there are fewer women to men ratios in the workforce due to the where we live, maternal implications (pregnancies), upbringing and education.
Yet, we have no excitement and enthusiasm for the One who saved our very souls. It’s something to ponder as we enter into a season dedicated to the proclamation of the birth of the Savior. This Sunday is the beginning of the Advent season. Advent means an arrival or appearing, in the ancient church it was a time set aside to prepare for Christmas and the arrival of the Christ child.
The child welfare has had a major impact on children lives throughout decades. The Poor laws was designed to help the poor and their family. Some suggest that The Poor laws basically mandated the community to care for their poor whom were unable to work. Those that could work were expected to do so (Stern, Axinn, 8th edition). This law led to family suffering as well as their children.
The purpose of this research project is to find information and create a booklet for children and their parents that cover some issues that they may be facing. The topics that the booklet cover are: bullying, food insecurities, homelessness, depression and anxiety. The goal is to provide information that will help children and families that might be facing one or more of these issues overcome the issues and give them information to resources that can help. This project started because I wanted to create something that could be useful to children and their families, so I started brainstorming on how or what could do that, then I came up with the idea of this booklet.
Walking into a high school, it is not uncommon to hear teenagers complain about the strains of an education. They may not realize, however, the numerous benefits of learning. Education is important because it makes the leaders of tomorrow more capable of dealing with real-world issues and eventually leads to economic growth, sustaining society. Any long-time teacher is familiar with a teenager's uninterested groan and the following, "When will we actually use this?"
Many kids in classes don’t support having to always read books the teacher assigns. I support having students being able to choose what books they would like to read in class. For example, it gives the students a voice. Additionally, it lets students choose books they enjoy more. Also, if the students have books they are interested in they will be more engaged in the classroom.
On the 2015 PISA, a test given around the world designed to assess education systems, the U.S. ranked 36 out of 65 countries on the math section. That is worse than half of the countries in the world. I am convinced this was not caused by dumb students, but by bad teaching. The teachers are not to blame. They were taught the same way, and they were trained to teach this way, so this is the only way of teaching they know.
In Evangelii Gaudium, Pope Francis declared that all people of the Church, must learn the “art of accompaniment, which teaches us to remove our sandals before the sacred ground of the other”1 and accompany them to Christ, meeting them at the place of their weakness and suffering. In my ISP, I would like to explore what this accompaniment looks like within the context of a peer friendship, focusing specifically on the difficult questions that many young Catholics deal with when they are in relationship with people who do not share the same faith or values.
