Streaming music has become such an universal thing and so common throughout our society/world, but even though it's common many people believe it's not a great factor to the society and the celebrities of today. If celebrities and the people who dislike streaming music look at the rates, they can see that many people don’t believe in buying music anymore. More people rather stream music, why? Well because it's free. To be honest, who doesn’t love anything free? Many people have many more opportunities and more ways of streaming music, then trying to be able to afford the songs that they want. Piracy, file sharing and streaming have shrunk the numbers of paid album sales drastically, and every artist has handled this blow differently. Music is art, and art is important and rare. Important, rare things are valuable. Valuable things should be paid for. It’s my opinion that music should not be free, and my prediction is that individual artists and their labels will someday decide what an album’s price point is. It has created such a wide base for people to listen to other songs that they like or dislike. Streaming music has given more streaming companies an opportunity to be able to have an everlasting career because on how fast it’s developing worldwide. Swanson stated that “Spotify currently employs over 300 people, is available in 21 countries and has a catalog of over 20,000,000 songs” (209). Spotify has created an open pavement that is going to be difficult to compete with. By this streaming music sensation, one artist was able to get more recognition for the creation of his art, and he goes by the name Wiz Khalifa. According to Billboard, “Wiz Khalifa’s “See you again” broke the record for most streams in a single day, garnering 4.2 million listens. It also set the record for most streams in a single week in 26 countries during April 6 to April 12” (par.2). By this happening, Wiz Khalifa was able to be one of the top artists of Spotify for 26 weeks consecutively, just by one song. Streaming music has been able to benefit people who really don’t have the time or money to buy music that they love, and it also gives people more chances of listening to the album before they even think about buying the album overall.
