Parenting Style Effects on Children
Interest has grown in the area of child development in regards to the impact a parenting style can have on the child. It is because of this interest in parenting styles that families have had to develop new and effective ways in order to discipline their children. Although there has been a growth in interest of particular parenting styles, it has been difficult to determine if there is a link of cause-and-effect when it comes to the specific actions taken by parents in regards to a child’s behavior. Throughout many cultures, the father enforces the role of the main disciplinarian while the mother takes a secondary role, but there are instances in which the mother is the main disciplinarian. Whether the mother, or the father, take the primary role as disciplinarian, it is important for parents to adjust their behaviors and expectations throughout the child’s developmental stages in order for the child to achieve his/her maximum potential (Krochek & Mowder, 2012).
