Title and Author Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer Plot Summary Oskar Schell is a nine-year-old boy who lost his father in the attack on the World Trade Center in 2001. Oskar has been looking for some closure, ever since that day. After finding a key in his father’s closet, he sets off on a journey looking for the lock. Along the journey, he is reminded of times with his father. He finds many new relationships along the way, including his grandfather, his mother, and Mr. Black. He even finds people who are also dealing with loss, like his mother’s friend, Ron. Although Oskar discovers these new people and new relationships, his only hope is to find closure. This shows that Grandma is very loving and wise. Throughout the story she shares he feelings and stories of when she was growing up. These stories all lead up to the lesson she is trying to teach Oskar. Memorable Quotes “I’m so afraid of losing something I love that I refuse to love anything” (216).
