The walking purchase was one of many significant events in history that is an unfamiliar event to many Americans and Indians as well. There are several factors that lead up to the walking purchase, and the purchase contributed to other significant historical events such as the French and Indian wars. There are a few people that were responsible for the onset of the walking purchase. King Charles II of England sent William Penn to the new world on a charter in 1861 with the intention to establish a new colony. William Penn arrived in the new world and quickly gained control of the territory which is presently known as Philadelphia. Penn purchased this land from the local Native Americans, and established a colony like no one had ever seen previously. He successfully recruited different settlers with various skills including farmers, adventurers, and businessmen. In 1862 Penn met with the Native Americans again as purchased hundreds of acres of the land that is directly north of Philadelphia. During this time William Penn established a working relationship with the American Indians. As history books and articles reflect the settlers and Indians lived in peace with one another for a number of years. In 1718 another treaty to purchase more land was negotiated. Only this treaty was created and negotiated by Thomas Penn almost 19 years after the death of his father William Penn. This treaty sought out more land which lay north of the previously negotiated treaty of 1862. During this time the settlers had already expanded and began living north of the boundary that was established.
