Neil Gaiman Speech “But the truth is, individuals change their world over and over, individuals make the future, and they do it by imagining that things can be different”(Gaiman). The significance of this sentence by Gaiman in his speech is the mention of imagination. Gaiman makes it a point to say that imagining is one of the best things you can do for yourself and the people around you. That by imagining, you are able to come up with new ideas to better the world, and change what is wrong with it. The way that you imagine is by reading fiction. Gaiman stresses that the key to your and the rest of society's future is the reading and enjoyment of fiction, especially other books you enjoy as well. “You get to feel things, visit places you would never otherwise know. You’re being someone else, and when you return to your own world, you're going to be slightly changed”(Gaiman). The significance of this sentence is the repetition of the changed people. Gaiman and Faber have similar ideas about humans needing quality information. Both see the need for us to have access to quality information found in quality books. As a writer, Gaiman knows how important books and the information in books are, he sees people be affected by his and others' writing all of the time. On the other hand, Faber, a retired English professor, knows the importance of books and good information in the same light as Gaiman. That is until the society in Fahrenheit 451 banned books.
