Are We Living In Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451? After reading the article Are We Living In Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 I have come to the conclusion that I do agree we are living in Fahrenheit 451 for many reasons. Over the past couple of years many people have forgotten what real communication is all about, it is not about tweeting and texting to each other it is all about real face to face interaction. According to the article it states that “similar kinds of arguments about the dangers of the web and social media” (Ingram 2) have also been made.
Journal #3 Novel Study Fahrenheit 451 Set in the futuristic world controlled by media, Fahrenheit 451 tells the story of the protagonist Montag, a fireman whose job is to burn book, his search for knowledge and self-identity. Books are considered illegal and banned because they make people think and question. I feel sympathy for Montag as his wife does not have any emotional attachment to him as she only care about her “family” on the parlor walls and betrayed Montag by reporting to the firemen that he has books in his possession. Montag also faces numbers of obstacles in his journey for self-identity. Fahrenheit 451 shares many similarities of the setting in the novel The Giver.
A large majority of books use many types of literary elements and devices. An example of a literary device is imagery; the five senses. This is one of the most descriptive types of writing as it conveys what the character is feeling or smelling. It’s a more human way of writing in some ways. In the book Fahrenheit 451, the character Montag has a large amount of internal struggle throughout the book.
“If they give you ruled paper, write the other way.” -Juan Ramon Jimenez. Things are lead the wrong way when technology becomes more developed. There are a lot of things that are changed, and the change is not for the better. People are just to in sync to notice that things aren’t right at all.
Webster’s Dictionary defines character as, “the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual”, these qualities can range from a simple opinion, to an action, to a character’s lifestyle. While Guy Montag from Fahrenheit 451 and Wade from Ready Player One are both uniquely distinct, they share many qualities that unites them as one. The first similarity of the two characters is that they both come from a world where modern technology consumes everyone’s daily lives, and both Wade and Montag must realize that a virtual reality, whilst perfect in sense, is not the truth. Montag realizes this after Clarisse asks him if he is truly happy, his immediate answer is a defensive yes, but after his wife tries to commit suicide, and Montag starts to think about his situation, he realizes that his response to Clarisse was a lie.
The Dangers Of Censorship That Burn A Society Imagine a world where reading a simple book would result in firemen at the door, ready to set the house ablaze. In the book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, Guy Montag is one of these firemen and the protagonist, who begins questioning his life after meeting Clarrise McClellan. Their government heavily censors what people consume from the media. They have firefighters burning books and have people like Mildred glued to the parlor wall screens that act like walk-in televisions. If people are discontent and step out of line, the firefighters have the mechanical hound track them down.
All that Montag wants is to make the community realize why books are important. How books can help us. Also, how books can make us feel some type of emotion. In the novel Fahrenheit 451 states how Montag read a poem to Mrs. Phelps which she is one of Mildred’s vapid friends. As Montag was reading her that poem Mrs. Phelps began to cry.
What do you think our lives would be like without books? In Fahrenheit 451 Montag lives in a society without books in the future, in a city in America where he is trying to bring books back and educate the younger generation. Our society and the society in Fahrenheit 451 are both similar and different in technology, family/marriage, and entertainment. To begin with the "dipple of Fahrenheit 451" and our society have both similarities and differences in technology in the wall TV's and toaster self butter and seashells. One way that the societies are similar is that both societies have advanced technology.
Throughout the history of mankind, there have always been two things required to advance. Specifically, these two things require reading and knowledge. In fact, without these things society would not have the capabilities required to advance. This can be seen in the book Fahrenheit 451 written by Ray Bradbury, in which society has banned books, technology is ubiquitous, violence is prevalent, war is ongoing, and individualism is discouraged. Whereas reading and knowledge in that society is seen as insignificant, reading and knowledge are essential for the growth of society because without these things society would fall apart.
In Fahrenheit 451, we see a future without literature to rid the people from deep feelings, just as our college campuses in America are doing by adding trigger warnings to books with possible offensive content. In the novel Fahrenheit 451, all books are outlawed. If anyone was to keep a book in their house, the punishment would be to have their home burnt down. The reasoning for the government taking all the books away was to rid people from education and to do away with deep emotions.
The Power of Books In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury transports us into a dystopian world where books are forbidden. Throughout the story, the main character, Montag, faces a war against society as soon as he decides to go against the law and read the books that he has collected over the year. Later, Montag becomes part of a secret group in where each person has the job to memorize a different book and pass them along to the following generations in order to maintain humankind’s relationship with literature. Montag chooses to memorize the biblical book of Ecclesiastes, however, if I were in his shoes I would memorize The Book Thief.

Wayne Dyer once said, “The highest form of ignorance is when you reject something you don 't know anything about.” In the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, ignorance is a common theme portrayed throughout the novel. It sets the impression of how all of the characters feel due to a society that has outlawed books. Guy Montag is a firefighter, whose job is to burn the books. Yet, he often steals them without the chief firefighter, or anyone else knowing.
Juan Solis Writing Style in Fahrenheit 451. Ray Bradbury’s style in Fahrenheit 451 is unique, and it helps add to the story’s atmosphere and tone. Bradbury structures his sentences in such a way that it makes the described situation feel heavier, and more meaningful. His vocabulary adds a rich sense of imagery, this is also combined with his use of figurative language throughout, compliments it further. These things come together to form a type of style that’s powerful, bizarre, and even confusing at times.
As of this year, I started to think about college. At first I wanted to attend the most well known school, but they are focused on their status. While I was searching for schools, I looked at the programs they provide, the teaching methods, and how effective their teaching was. As I was reading the passage, I pondered William Deresiewicz ideas. Deresiewicz believes that parents should never send their child to an Ivy League school; because of the horrendous effects it has on the college students and how corrupt the schools are.
