Books hold knowledge and power. However, they can also cause controversy and dissatisfaction. While watching the film “The Truman Show”, Truman Burbank, the main character of this film has a life full of lies. Cameras are placed in spots to go unseen. He doesn't see what is real and what is scripted. In the novel Fahrenheit 451, Guy Montag has a mission to burn all books he sees. However, after meeting his new neighbor Clarisse, Montag is forced to rethink his job choices and the effect books have on society's norms. Both Truman and Montag feel moments of mindlessness, loneliness, and unfulfillment. While feeling these traits, their ideas and personalities have been affected majorly. Mindlessness, actions, without thinking. While Fahrenheit 451 shows moments of thoughtfulness, there are many more moments of mindlessness. Often enough characters say and do things without thinking. For instance, during Fahrenheit 451 Montag's wife with her friends and Montag while sitting in the TV room Mrs. Phelps says, “In again out again Finnegan, The Army said so. Quick War. Forty-eight hours, they said, and everyone was home. That’s what the army said. Quick War” (Bradbury 94). Mrs. Phelps explains how her son went to war and how it was a quick war. Unfulfillment is an emotion Montag feels often throughout this novel. While reading, Mildred says "Funny, how funny, not to remember where or when you met your husband or wife"(Bradbury 43). This left Montag feeling uneasy and confused. While on the other hand from the Truman show, an example of this, through the movie, Truman longs for another girl he met in college. This was the first time Truman asked why the world seemed to revolve around him. Truman feels uncomfortable with this because she doesn't understand why the world seems to revolve around him. Both feel unfulfilled in the part they have in their lives and
