In the past 50 years, mankind has created convenient inventions towards society. Creations such as the TV remote and computers were made. However, as technology continues to advance, people become addicted and rely heavily on these inventions. As the addiction grows, several people begin to buy what’s considered “new”. The company known as Apple, has sold over a billion iPhones and smart devices in the last decade. About 150 million iPhones were sold in 2013. Two years later, approximately 700 million iPhones were bought. Fahrenheit 451, written by Ray Bradbury, is a science fiction book that still portrays our current world. A poll taken this year by Kelly Wallace on CNN.com, shows the results from an interview with 1,240 parents and their children, ages 12 to 18. Wallace adds, “50% of teens and 27% of parents feel they're addicted to their mobile devices” (Wallace). Based off the poll, Wallace emphasizes that 69% of parents and 78% of teens check their phones hourly. Adults are also suffering from this addiction to technology (Wallace). In Fahrenheit 451, Bradbury points out, “I don’t think it’s social to get a bunch of people together and then not let them talk, do you? An hour of TV class” (Bradbury 26).Bradbury insists that technology has diminished the aspect of physical social interaction. There shouldn’t be any fear about Bradbury’s absurd predictions. Not only is technology a source for entertainment, it also helps release information quicker. For example, several news broadcasts post new crimes and global current events. Also, the new advancements in technology are helping the police combat crime. Todd R. Weiss from computerworld.com, claims, that their are 5 new devices that are helping the police. Colleges are also benefitted from technology. K12academics.com asserts, :”Your profile included in our monthly newsletter. Over 12,000+ subscribers” (k12academics). By advertising on social media and on TV, several young adults apply for the colleges. Ashley Wainwright from securedgenetworks.com, claims that technology “...will help prepare students for their future careers, which will inevitably include the use of wireless technology” (Wainwright). Using technology on a daily basis can improve our skills for our future jobs. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, “More than 50% of today’s jobs require some degree of technology skills, experts say that percentage will increase to 77% in the next decade”
