Journal Entry - MAY 27, 1843. One calm morning in Massachusetts I noticed while I was approaching the hospital hut I worked at, I saw people running around in some sort of panic, some people seemed to have severe burns and bruises. Moments after the people scattered I noticed smoke and flames spitting out of the hospital, then one of my co-workers approached me, they shouted “ADA, it happened so fast no one knew what happened!” I gasped as I noticed that everything around the hospital was destroyed. Minutes later I ran home and I stutteringly explained to Dan, my husband, that the hospital was burned down. Journal Entry II - May 28, 1843. We decided to bring our daughter, Beatrice, on the trail with us, but we had to leave our parents behind. The supplies that we brought were sectioned into a few categories, them being, Sleeping, Kitchen, fuel, decorations/carryables and Personal supplies. Sleeping supplies include beds, bedding and blankets. Kitchen supplies include utensils, pots, pans, dishes, stove, coffee grinders/pots, tables/ chairs and food. Fuels include coal, oils, matches and wood. Decorations/carryables supplies include lanterns, needle & thread, twine and animal traps. Finally the last group, Personal Supplies includes, family bible, clothing, hunting knife/rifle, first aid kit, tools (shovel, hatchet, axe and shovel) and extra boots(snow).
