Clarisse McClellan and Mildred's friends in Bradbury's novel, Fahrenheit 451 appear only briefly, nonetheless, they still have a great impact on the development of guy Montag as well as the plot. Montag thrives to do better with their influence; Clarisse by making him wonder about the potential beauty of the world, and Mrs. Clara Phelps and Mrs. Ann Bowles by proving to him the harshness of the society. As neighbours, Clarisse heavily affects Montag because of the society's condition on people like her and her family. Clarisse McClellan is a teenage character with a wondrous and curious personality about the world and nature. She confirms to be unmistakably strange and different in comparison to the other people around her.
Ahmad—Showing that firemen will start burning things instead of ending fire was a very nice idea I don’t know how you came up with this idea. Bradbury—I was thinking about the things that happen in real life but we don’t see it. We always see doctors as good people because they risk our lives but not all of the doctors are good just how we think. I want you to think decently about this if you meet somebody doesn’t think he is good just because he is a doctor or he is bad because he has another job that you don’t like. I wrote about this in Fahrenheit 451 when Clarisse told Montage that he is not like all other firemen.
In Fahrenheit 451, the author, Ray Bradbury uses characterization as an opportunity to highlight the unique qualities that symbolize the inner desires, of the story’s most dynamic character, Guy Montag. Bradbury reveals how the characters interactions with Montag, inspire him and allows him to begin thinking and asking himself questions. The individual thinking that begins, allows Montag to encounter like-minded characters who give him the courage to begin his journey of change. Clarisse, Mildred, the woman at the house fire, Faber, Captain Beatty, and Granger, all illustrate that engaging in conversations with people encourages thinking as opposed to simply receiving orders that lead to impersonating others. Bradbury’s use of these characters allows the reader to
Contrasting characters or people are common in societies to show different perspectives on life. Contrasting characters can be seen in many movies between the protagonist and antagonist. These characters give an insight to many perspectives while events occur throughout the movie. Also, contrasting characters can be seen in real life like politicians. Many politicians disagree about the same issues they are faced upon.
Do you follow the rules? In the book Fahrenheit 451 there is a character by the name of Guy Montag and he is the rebel of the story and contributes to the theme in a way that any other fictional character would. On the other hand, Clarisse thinks for herself and most of the time and disobeys the rules for the most part. And this essay will compare and contrast the Qualities that they both acquire. And I believe that Clarisse and Montag contribute to the theme because Clarisse changes Montag as the book goes on and Montag keeps Clarisse happy by being there for her and being her father figure Clarisse is crazy or at least that what she thinks and the world sees her as a crazy 16-year old that tends to overthink things.
Montag in Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 Many minor characters influence the character Guy Montag. All these characters give Montag a new perspective on society and people. This is what helps shape Montag into who he wants to be. Montag’s eyes are opened throughout the book as he begins to see what people are actually like.
To start off with, in Fahrenheit 451, we see Montag the protagonist undergoes a change throughout the book. He starts off being a fireman which means he enjoys burning books in his society. Subsequently, he meets Clarisse McClellan, his new next-door neighbor. She is the opposite of his wife. She symbolizes change for him.
In Fahrenheit 451 Montag meets a seventeen year old girl that seems to change his whole world around about the way he thinks. Clarisse McClellan a young girl that sees the world a different way than others tend to. She thinks that Montag is different than other firemen because most firemen think she is crazy and just walk away from her. Clarisse has a huge imagination and is not like a regular teenager. She thinks more deeply and is bold.
None of us are perfect. We all have our mistakes, flaws, and imperfections. Regardless of this, we still all strive to be perfect. We work on ourselves by trying to fix the problems and become better people. In doing this, we try to develop the traits we want.
In Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, Clarisse McClellan plays a crucial role. Challenging the expectations of how people should behave in this dystopian society. Her free spirit and deep curiosity make her stand out from everybody else. Clarisse challenges Montag’s conformity and makes him eager to question his society's rules and to explore, changing his perspective. Clarisse's role was necessary for Montag to realize the problem of his society, she opened his eyes and helped him begin his journey.
As seen above, Ray Bradbury uses contrasting characters like Clarisse and Mildred in Fahrenheit 451 to show two different people with different characteristics and perspectives in the novel’s society. Clarisse is not common in their society because while everyone else is watching their parlor walls; she’s observing and thinking. I feel that in today’s society; the number of people like Clarisse is becoming fewer due to technology advancing in our own society. Mildred, however, is the opposite because she’s the exact definition of a “normal person” in her society. Unlike Clarisse, Mildred spends all her time watching the parlor walls, and she becomes a roadblock for Montag with his new found love of thinking and reading.
In the dystopian novel, Fahrenheit 451, By Ray Bradbury, Clarisse Mcclellan has the biggest impact on Guy Montag. In the beginning of the novel, Montag is in love with the sensation of burning and fire. He wants nothing to change in his life and he is just living “not thinking about much at all.” He does not even realize that he does not love Mildred anymore until Clarisse came along. After talking to Clarisse every day for a while Montag realizes the life that everybody in the dystopian society lives is deeply flawed and is in need of immediate change relating to books.
What begins the changes in Montag and what are the changes in him? In Ray Braudbury’s novel, Fahrenheit 451, Guy Montag undergoes major changes because of the influence of other intellects and events; in effect this caused him to ruminate about events that were considered “normal”. Montag’s occupation is firefighting, however he is not the traditional version of a fire fighter. Montag does not put out fire, but rather helps ignite them.

Throughout my whole life, my father has been an alcoholic. There have been times when he has tried to quit, but it never lasted for more than a few months. His addiction has brought on stressful times for my family. Some days we did not know where he was or if he was coming home. Although my father’s addiction might not have made the best childhood, he did show me the kind of person I did not want to be.
