Should it define who you are, or change the way people look at you? For Montag, his past in fact does define who he is in the present. However, could his past define his present self in a positive way rather than negative? In the book, Fahrenheit 451, Bradbury vividly portrays Montag's character, depicting his journey through a transformative and often harsh narrative. “‘So many people are. Afraid of firemen, I mean. But you’re just a man, after all’”(Bradbury 5). Clarrise opened up Montag's curiosity for reading and made him question why these books were banned. Montag becomes more and more intrigued with the world of books and eventually starts sneaking them and hiding them in his home. Guess who else is good at sneaking around to figure out mysteries, do you happen to remember Nancy Drew? Nancy Drew, the original sleuth during her prime time, not only created nostalgia for those who grew up reading the books with her adventures, but also set a stable role model for young girls everywhere. Similar to Nancy Drew, Montag also sets a stable role model for those who read the book Fahrenheit 451. “Often what women remember about the books speaks to who they were - shy girls seeking inspiration; smart girls seeking affirmation.
