Over the course of the fall play I worked as a crew member for the production, which is responsible for building the set, and later on usually serves as the running crew for the production. This was not my first time being a crew member for a production at Guerin, it was my fourth, and one of the last two times I will be able to be involved in it due to the fact that this is my senior year. As such, the fall play, Secret In The Wings, served as a major transitional period for me because I learned how to be a leader, manage time, and how to to be a better team member.
Owing to the fact that this is my fourth time participating in a Guerin Prep production, I was not new or surprised by anything in set, and actually felt like I had found my own personal groove in it. Instead of being worried about doing something wrong, I was enjoying doing the familiar and still exciting activities that come with working as a crew member. I had always enjoyed being a member of crew, but there had always been older members of it who knew more than I did and were willing to help and teach me; this year I found that I was the older or more experienced member that younger or more new crew members were deferring to. The play and Ms. Mackie’s desired commitment and focus pushed me into realizing that I was not the only one who was dealing with difficult and exhausting things in their lives, but one of many. This realization lent me better perspective into individuals I worked with on set or even during tech rehearsal who seemed to lack consideration, and I found myself more likely to do something extra or better in order to make whatever task it was easier for the whole of the group, rather than just relying on others to do it, or assuming it would be
