Today, health around the world has been a growing interest for many people because every country has different approaches in providing health care. In order for a country to have a good health indicator, the country needs to have a high health expenditure as Vincent Setlhare mentioned in his opinion paper “Family medicine in Denmark: Are there lessons for Botswana and Africa?”. Setlhare also provides statistics of how much Botswana and Denmark tax the people. Even though Denmark has a tax rate toward welfare at 60%, their primary health care is free of charge. In Botswana the tax rate is 25%, but the people are still required to pay a small fee. In addition, this has helped Botswana health indicator to be positive. However, Setlhare points out that because Botswana has a greater population, there is still a “high income gap” that “contribute to poorer health indicators of Botswana.” (Setlhare, 2016). Setlhare continues to compare that Botswana only spends 5.4% of their GDP on health, compare to Denmark spending nearly twice. The most important comparison is the quality of their health care workers. The Danish has experienced workers who are specialized in their field and who has the training of customer services and research exposures. Since the Danish have qualify workers, this contributes to why they have a “good health indicator” (Setlhare, 2016). Setlhare also points out that in order to provide quality health care, technology plays a huge role. When there is an IT system, laboratories can have specimens’ results within 12-24 hours (Setlhare, 2016).
