Through this course I have learned that history taking and performing a physical assessment and being able to differentiate normal from abnormal findings is one of the most important roles of a health care provider. If an accurate physical assessment is not performed, whether for baseline data or when the patient’s condition changes, then the patient is not receiving the level of competent care he deserves. Family Nurse Practitioners are expected to safely provide and meet the healthcare needs of people across the lifespan and diverse cultures through evidence-based care. Assessment is the first step in the process of individualizing care. To site a few examples, it is important to know a patient’s allergies to medications or food to avoid
Conclusion In conclusion, advanced practice roles have been discussed along with the similarities and differences among each role. Focusing primarily on the Family Nurse Practitioner for which I have predominately reviewed under my master’s level of a degree program. Each role is explained in further detail on whether the provider works indirectly or in a direct care setting. The state, Georgia and its laws and regulations are then disclosed as this is the state that I reside in.
A Nurse Practitioner (NP) can increase the revenue in different ways. An Np can see three or more patients per hour on average (American Association of Nurse Practitioners, 2017). A newly graduated NP without experience may see 10 patients per day for the first six months. After six months, when they become more comfortable and efficient, they may be able to see 15 patients. Eventually, that number can increase up to 24 patients per day (Buppert, 2015).

The AACN competencies require that DNP must, “facilitate collaborative team functioning and overcome impediments to interprofessional practice” (p. 14). As the advanced practice nurse seeks to move past the historical superior/subordinate roles between nursing and medicine (Price, Doucet & McGillis, 2013), the DNP must clarify succinctly to other health care professionals and advocate for the role and the value of advanced practice nursing (Lowe, Plummer, O’Brian, A.P. & Boyd, 2012). This Interprofessional collaboration is essential for providing comprehensive care for the patient. Clinical Prevention and Population Health for Improving the Nation’s Health Preventative care, health education and health promotion, are cornerstones of DNP/NP practice. Lowe, Plummer, O’Brian, A.P. & Boyd state, “The competence of NPs to manage patient care in a comparable manner to physicians, with high levels of patient satisfaction, combined with increased advice on education, health promotion and follow-up advice has been well reported...” and that evidence suggests that, “NPs might better deliver care due to the very nature of an integrated approach to practice” (p. 679).
What particular value will the nurse representative bring to the board unique and different from that already presented? Nursing provides the highest amount of patient contact care, providing care at the bedside throughout out the patient’s entire stay in the hospital. Fran Roberts, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, makes an excellent point when she describes a nurses perspective of a hospital from the inside out, offering a view that no other healthcare provider can (Roberts, 2014). Dr. Roberts goes on to explain that this unique perspective provides insight that no other board members can bring to the table, such as what it 's like to work short staffed, at what point patient safety becomes compromised, and experiences that no one can offer other than another nurse (Roberts, 2014).
After doing this project I learned a lot of things about my dream job. It helped me understand the different options I have going into the medical field. It also showed me that I can always move up. I can go back to school and get more education to improve in my position. Being a Licensed Practical Nurse is a good way to start my career.
My passion for nursing practice defies description; leading to the reason I am opting to pursue a higher level of education in nursing. The George Washington University School of nursing has one of the highly ranked master’s programs in the country, which offers a competitive curriculum and highly defined leadership skills that integrates technology into learning. It is therefore my desire to pursue an advance education at this facility because it prepares practitioners to become great clinicians ready to solve real-world clinical problems. Moreover, the opportunity to pursue a degree in this facility will afford me the ability to be a competent and highly efficient family nurse practitioner; that will serve the community and mostly the underserved. I am the last child in a family of eight that has aspired to pursue my education at the graduate level.
I currently work at Overland Park Regional Medical Center on the telemetry unit. The main professional nursing associations that I am aware of on our floor is the American Nurses Association (ANA) and the Kansas State Nurses Association (KSNA). The reason these specific nursing associations are influential at my place of work is because they help the nurses collaborate with one another all over the country and they are such large well known organizations . Matthews (2012) states that the ANA for example, advances nursing by fostering high standards of nursing practice, promoting the rights of nurses in the workplace, and by projecting a positive and realistic view of nursing. The only professional nursing association I am a member of is
Reflecting on the past seven weeks I have acquired countless knowledge, which I will use to further strengthen my profession as an Advanced Practice Nurse. The course allowed me to think beyond my current practice knowledge and acquired innovative ways to evaluate the situation at hand. The learning objective in program outcome four helps set standards that I will use to guide my clinical practice to meet various healthcare needs. Using the case studies has helped to further enhance my knowledge on disease physiological state, using differential diagnosis, disease manifestations, and clinical presentation. It has also taught me the skills on how to differentiate between similar diagnoses to properly identify the problem and treat the patients.
I just completed my Bachelor of Science in Nursing and look forward to exploring nursing theory, evidence-based practice and leadership even further in the advance practice curriculum. I am pursuing family nurse practitioner because it will allow me to be more versatile in my nursing skills and serve a larger patient population. There has been a focus on primary care medicine since the Affordable Care Act; resulting in a larger need for nurse practitioners required to care for this patient population. I have been granted an opportunity to advance my career and I am more than ready to take on the added responsibilities and handle treatment plans autonomously, as well as learning additional skills such as diagnosing and prescribing medications. By obtaining my graduate level education my clinical judgment would be enhanced to improve safety, quality of care and patient outcomes substantially.
My passion for healthcare lies with patient care. I enjoy taking care of patients and their family. As a nurse practitioner will be able to make an impact on my patient’s health through, health promotion, disease prevention, managing acute and chronic conditions and improving patient’s health (Wynne,
