Farewell is a 28''x 28'' painting created in 1943 by Richard Wilt. In 1943 a major event was World War 2 and this can suggest the time period the painting is in. This painting was done with oil on canvas and is located at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans. This painting in my mind shows the style of romanticized. I think this way because of the way the painting is speaking to me and the different emotions the painting is giving off. Some emotions that I am getting from this painting would be freedom and happiness. This genre painting shows scenes from everyday life. The little boy and girl look to be running inside of a rustic, old wood house. In the house, you can see a few papers hung up on the walls, one white bed, and a window also inside the house. All of the people in this painting are African American and look very thin. Next, to the house, there is an old car that is facing forward. Also very close to the old car there is there is a wooden latrine. There are many different animals seen throughout this painting those being one pig and what looks to be four birds. There is a naked tree on the left side of the painting that could suggest the season or living situations the people are living through.
