In the tragic romance ‘Romeo and Juliet’, Shakespeare conveys an example of how love can have feelings, but can also cause damage. This is not only in some characters’ lives but also in their surrounding lives. The play shows how thoughts and opinions can affect the people close to them. There are a vast number of characters in the play, who are responsible for its tragic ending. A key theme in this play is fate. Fate is that a person’s life has been decided for them, and what that person can do about it. Furthermore, another vital theme in this play is hatred. Shakespeare conveys hatred, which leads to love.

Here, he is revealing of what is to come for Romeo and Juliet. This scene is a violent scene, in which some characters are killed. This gives the audience a vision of what is to come. In Act 5, Romeo is informed of Juliet's death. He swears he will defy fate. He said "Is it even so? Then I defy you, stars!" Later, in Juliet's tomb, as he plans his own death, Romeo says: "Will I set up my everlasting rest and shake the yoke of inauspicious stars from this world-wearied flesh." He portrays this through the prince. The prince says “What, ho! You men, you beasts, that quench the fire of your pernicious rage, with purple fountains issuing from your veins. On pain of torture, from those hands…To wield old partisans in hands as old, cankered with peace, to part your cankered hate” When the Prince calls the Capulets and Montagues a bunch of "beasts," Here, the prince is implying that the hatred does not appear to have any cause. Shakespeare has not conveyed any real explanation of what caused the hate, or why it even continued. The only thing that the author has conveyed is that there have been three big street fights.
