In the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare fate was responsible for the tragedy of their death. Fate is an event caused by a supernatural power. In Romeo and Juliet, Fate is brought up steadily and is the main trouble causing factor in the play Romeo and Juliet. Many people, even the pair of lovers themselves have realized how cruel fate is. Fate is very prevalent throughout the entire play, and it was the cause of Romeo and Juliet's death. Throughout the play fate is one of the leading factors leading to the tragedy. Fate is first shown in the play in the prologue, when Romeo and Juliet are called a set of “star crossed lovers”, meaning that the stars are against them. “Is it even so? In the end, Romeo’s efforts are failed, and him and Juliet both die, due to Fate’s strong power. One of the biggest reason's Romeo and Juliet's relationship was doomed from the beginning (fate) is due to the feud between their two families, which is first introduced in the prologue "Two households, both alike in dignity, in fair Verona, where we lay our scene, From ancient grudge break to new mutiny, where civil blood makes civil hands unclean." (Prologue.1-5). Them being from the 2 separate households would make their relationship in the long term nearly impossible, due to the long-standing feud between their families.
