Fate is a power that predetermines events that will occur. In the play Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare focused on the profound love that the two characters had for each other and their fate. The idea of fate was lucid throughout the play. It was shown in the prologues, acts, and scenes. The young lovers had a fate of hardship and death all along. For instance, the fights between the Capulets and Montagues caused this play to be a tragic. In the prologue Shakespeare informs the audience about the hatred between the two families and how Romeo and Juliet, son of Montague and daughter of Capulet, were destined to death. Their deaths were the only thing that was able to end their parents feud. It was fate that cause Romeo and Juliet to die for their love to make peace between the families. The conflict between both the families affected everyone in Verona. In act 3 scene 1 the effect of the hatred was shown when Mercutio shouts ¨I've been hurt. May a plague curse both your families.¨ This scene is when Tybalt and Mercutio are killed, which foreshadowed the fate of Romeo and Juliet. In Act 2 in the prologue Romeo says he is ¨beloved and loves again, Alike bewitchèd by the charm of looks, But to his foe supposed he must complain¨ showing their fate again by pointing out that they are enemies. Initially the character Romeo, fell in love with one that was supposed to have been his enemy but for some reason they were put together to fall in love. In act 5 scene 1 Shakespeare again makes Romeo wander off to the thought of his beautiful wife Juliet. He displayed Romeo as someone who loved truly and expressed his feelings with full emotion like when he says ¨Ah me! How sweet is love itself possessed when but love's shadows are so rich in joy!¨ The audience could see how happy he was just thinking of his lover.
