In the text McNeil said, “When I think of fear I think of something [Gen. George] Patton21 said. He said fear is something that all human beings have. The fact that we have it is not important. What is important is how we handle fear,” (20 Newsday). As you can see by what McNeil said from that quote by Gen. George Patton, it’s what you do with the fear that makes it fear.
March 17, 2023 Dear Readers, Fear. Fear is defined as being afraid of someone or something that is likely to be dangerous, painful or threatening. Should you fear your family? Should you fear your own brother?
“The only thing to fear is fear itself.” (Franklin D. Roosevelt). Fear is a commonly confused emotion. Everyone’s response to fear varies. People may pass off fear as other things such as stress, anxiety, and in some cases laughter.
Fear can cause many things, mostly violence because if someone or a group of people fear something but don’t know who or what it is they can get violent. For example if someone kills somebody else and the family doesn’t know if that same person will come back for them they will get violent and look for that person and might kill that person and the whole family to. Fear can also cause overreacting and people start to panic and

Some people use fear to control the people around them. Someone that uses fear to control others is called a demagogue.

“The Cask of Amontillado” is one of Edgar’s Allen Poe best short narratives with its vengeful characters and eerie and horror-filled atmosphere. The story was published in 1847, to later be known as a classical tale of revenge. Both Fortunato and Montresor were the protagonist and antagonist that kept his short narrative alive and suspenseful to the audience. What also kept his story full of life was what happened to between these characters that made this story revengeful. Though what is revenge?

Humans are born to be afraid. A feeling of fear is only natural for humans to feel; it is a part of who we are. However, it can be more than just a feeling. Fear can be a weakness in humans even though it is only our natural instinct for survival. Sometimes, fear is so powerful that it can blur our rationality and dominate how we think and what we do.
Such as being kidnapped when walking from school to home or having your child taken in a shopping mall when you look away for a second. Not only that, but the fear of failure, rejection, humiliation, suffering, and what lies ahead for the future. These are the reasons why I stand strong that fear is what controls us in today’s society over
Fear can be very advantageous when it comes to surviving. Fear inhibits you from doing risky actions that can put you and others in danger; it keeps you cautious and careful. Even though fear helps you when surviving, fear can harm you in life. Fear can cause paranoia that keeps you from enjoying life. You start to obsess over minimal things leading to hallucination.
Fear is not always a harmful emotion. Through fear, we have learned life-long lessons that not everything will work in our favor. We have grown around the definition that fear is “an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain or be a threat” but never that the emotion is a natural and a helpful response. The Crucible, Farewell to Manzanar, and a George Takei interview all provide examples of how fear can be both harmful and beneficial.
Fear can be defined as an unpleasant feeling triggered by a situation. It is an emotion encountered by every human being. However, the reactions of people to fear may vary. Indeed, it ranges from the loss of rationality to the capacity of adaptation in extreme conditions. Thus, fear can be perceived as a weapon to control and manipulate society.
