The antifederalists were a group of men who in general were ill educated compared to the federalists. Some of these people include back country farmers, poor farmers and illiterate debaters. They did not want a strong central government and believed in the Articles of Confederation. They thought the Bill of Rights were necessary to protect their rights. They feared without it, their rights would not be acknowledged. They felt that the Constitution only favored the wealthy men and their power. The anti federalists were afraid of a strong central government when it came to the government taking over their property and using them. For example, the 3rd amendment states that homeowners should not be obligated to open their homes to soldiers and the soldiers should not be allowed to take over one 's home. An example from the bill of rights is Amendment number 9. It says that you have additional rights that are not listed in the Constitution. While the anti federalists were in favor of this, the federalists believed that any rights not listed in the bill of rights would not be protected. This shows that with this, the people would have their rights protected and even some that were not included in the bill of rights. Another example of the anti federalists taking action of protecting their rights is in the 1st amendment. The 1st amendment says that people have right to freedom of speech, freedom of press, freedom of assembly and the right to petition against the government. This proved that they would not let their government stop them from voicing their opinions and trying to change how their government ran if they did not agree.
