Feminism, as it has previously existed, was concerned over the inequality felt between men and women. As time has passed, and feelings and thoughts have changed, this definition has also something that has been changed. Into what, one may ask, is still a question left to be answered. Feminism to me is more than just about the inequality of the sex’s, but also inequality between genders, (of which there are more than two, or in some cases none). But also, more than just gender: race, sexuality, age, class, ability, the list goes on. These persons cases are different in how they experience the world and how people of the world may react to them. In a case such as the ones previously stated, when it comes to creating change, “intervention strategies based solely on the experiences of women who do not share the same class or race backgrounds will be of limited help to women who because of race and class face different obstacles” (Crenshaw, 1246). Specifically, as in cases that I have personally experienced, I have been criticized over my lack of a presence at rallies and talks concerning feminist issues. In my own case, it is extremely difficult to attend events that happen in the middle of the work/school day, and still stay on track at school, and attend work at a sufficient rate to be able to pay rent, bills, and feed myself. Acceptance of people even if they do not share the same beliefs as I or if they live in a way I don’t agree with. The prejudices held against people when they have had no control over their race, ethnicity, or any other varying factors. If a person has, not control over something that they cannot change after the fact (often the case, birth), then we as people have no right of holding any prejudice against them. They are not less than anyone else, no one is less than anyone else, and we have no right to impose such restrictions on people. Feminism, to me, is the practice of informing and teaching people that everyone is equal to another.
