It was a cool Tuesday morning, in Spanish class. The art teacher walks in from next door and ask for some help to carry some boxes. A mixture of girls and boys raise their hands. The teacher then says, “Oh, I only need boys.” She looks around and picks, “Jerry, Bob, and Dylan.” Why? Why does she only need boys and not girls? Girls can be robust and can carry heavy boxes. This is just one example, in society where women are undermined next to men. Equality of men and women is impaired in some aspects of society like high school, politics and the sports world.
Many people say high school years were the roughest. The drama, the huge load of work, social status, etc. were the popular issues of high school. Although one small feminist issue that is hidden in the student handbook is not seen by all. The student handbook includes the rules of dress code. Rules for girls are no spaghetti straps, short shorts longer than the fingertips, no short dresses, straps that go till the shoulder, etc. while the rules for guys are limited to only not showing under arm areas. From the early ages itself, only men were known to rule and govern. That still happens today, too. Women are 51 percent of the U.S. population and they only have a 1/5 of representation in Washington D.C. There are only 5 female governors and the percentage of women in state legislative offices is less than 25 percent. Also, only 12 of the 100 largest cities have female mayors. This needs to change. Having women in office brings the name of fairness and equality to the U.S. Research shows that nations who elect women result in higher economic performance. Instead of spurning feminist views in the political word, they should be embraced because having women in office is essential nationally and
