The Feminist movement helped women gain a lot more privileges and opportunities that would improve their lives and help them achieve independence. Before the Feminist movement took place, women were oppressed and didn’t have many rights or room for advancement in their respective fields. Instead, they were expected to do everything their husbands told them to do and they weren’t allowed to do much for themselves besides taking care of domestic duties around the house as well as their families. The Feminist movement allowed women to become independent with the help of eliminating gender roles, having more job opportunity, and gaining more rights.

For example, one of the outcomes that came out of this movement was women gaining the right to vote. The most important noted leaders of the women’s rights movement were Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. After decades of campaigning for the right to vote, the nineteenth amendment was passed establishing women’s right to vote. By getting the right to vote, women were finally seen as equal to men because voting allowed them to express their opinion as much as men could; iIt made both men and women equal under the law. Women also gained more reproductive rights as well. With the help of Margaret Sanger, women gained the right to use birth control as well as gain the right to have abortions. Another right women were able to obtain from this crusade was the right to get a divorce. Before women had this right, the only way that they get a divorce was if the husband filed for divorce because they couldn’t get a divorce unless it was desired by the husband. An additional way women were able to express their independence was investing in property. During this movement, women had gained the right to own their own property which allowed them to live independently from men. Having the right to invest property was important to the Feminist movement because it liberated women from having to depend on men for everything and it allowed them to have their own financial freedoms.
