Fernando Sorrentino’s short story “There's a man in the habit of hitting me on the head with an umbrella,” Seems like it uses symbolism. Although Sorrentino says that he did not intend to use any sort of symbolism, there is symbolism that can be seen in the story. In the story, the man who is getting repeatedly hit by the umbrella states “At first I couldn’t stand it; now i’m used to it.” This statement has hidden meaning, it is saying that someone’s annoyance will pass at some point, and be almost unnoticeable after enough time.
