HCFB mission is to fight hunger and feed hope. HCFB is able to feed the hungry with the help of 150 and more agencies. The organization distributes food to soup kitchen, senior program, school pantries, day care center, and food pantries. HCBF have been determine from the beginning help fight hunger with the help of so many people. Lee County Food Cooperative was the original name of Harry Chapin Food Bank. The organization began in 1983, where the main purpose was the cooperate aid in the distribution of the leftovers of dairy products held by federal government. Slowly cooperative began to distribute other food products through food drive. Not only in 1980s cooperative earn its reputation as number one safety net for hungry in Southwest Florida, but it also grew its extended its services. With the help of The United States Department of Agriculture HCFB grew rapidly by becoming their top distributer. A great deal of help is received by companies like Publix, Panera Bread, Florida Association of Food Bank, Walmart, United Way, New-Press, and Wink News. Second, food is distributed to HCFB program like soup kitchen, food pantries, school pantries, day care center, senior program and residential program. Finally food is provided to low-income families, working poor, battered women and children, people living with AIDS, single-parent families, homeless, natural disaster victims.
