Bad Day at Black Rock Kathryn Abbott October 29 2015 DRAMA 3030 The unexpected arrival of a stranger to a small, Midwestern town creates a feeling of scepticism and suspicion, and through this the explicit meaning is revealed: Fear of the unknown and the moral and physical deterioration of a town left to its own devices. The film exemplifies these concepts through the use of mise-en-scène, and vivid cinematographic elements. The blood red coloured train stands out against a muted background.
Throughout the world, violence has occurred in some form in each individual’s life since the beginning of time. Violence is any action, inaction, or structural arrangement that results in physical or nonphysical harm to one or more animals. There are three types of violence to classify the act, which is Institutional, Interpersonal, and Structural. Within each type of violence are specific categories that occur, such as family, religion, educational, corporate, and even economical violence.
Violence is an action that people despise but is mostly always used when one well being is threatened. The book “the outsiders” it is about a boy named ponyboy who is in a gang and struggles with his differences from the rest of the gang. The text “fist stick knife gun” talks of a boy and his brothers who use violence to get a jacket back from a boy who stole it from them. Both the authors use the protagonist conflict in their life to connect to the theme violence leads to more violence. In both “Outsiders” and “Fist stick knife gun” the authors uses POV of the characters to develop the theme of violence never ends it's like a cycle.

An act of violence that stood out to me would be in Book 9 with Cyclops Polyphemus. In this scene Odysseus and his men find the Cyclops’ home but he isn’t there. Once he returns he finds Odysseus and his men hiding. To keep the men locked in he placing a boulder over the opening of the cave. Odysseus tries to reason with him but he grabs two of Odysseus’ men and eats them.
The film I am analyzing, A League of Their Own, would be categorized as a narrative film about the growth of women’s baseball teams during World War II. It follows the dramatized story of Dottie Hinson’s time in her baseball league and their struggles to make women’s baseball be taken seriously; however, the film focuses more on Dottie’s personal goals and relationships. With the added personal challenge of Dottie’s increasing rivalry with her sibling, Kit, as well as the uncaring attitude of their manager, Jimmy Dugan, Dottie’s tale is filled with tension and emotion that is shaped to draw the audience in. To showcase the drama of the film and to help the audience become attached to the stories of the characters, the movie uses flashbacks, comedy, and interpersonal drama to manufacture the story of our main character, Dottie, more interesting and engaging to the audience. As is easily evident simply by the summary of the movie, A League of Their Own is a nonfiction, narrative film made for entertainment and drama, and uses the time period as the circumstances of the story relevant to the audience.
Throughout history, violence has played a major role in our society and has been consistent in every generation. Constantly, we are hearing about violence through the media and for some people, we are witnessing the violence firsthand. Violence can be defined as the intentional use of physical force or power, vulnerable or actual, against oneself, another person, or against a community. Violence can end up in or incorporates a high chance leading to injury, death, psychological trauma, and deprivation. There are many different reasons people commit violent acts, an example of this can be self defense or anger.

Mrs. Schumacher Film Appreciation Final Paper Footloose When watching both Footloose movies the 1984 and the 2011 version, there are quite a few noticeable differences. I would like to start out by saying that the biggest one is the character choice. In my opinion Kevin Bacon didn't play a very good Ren McCormick. I believe that Kenny Wormald plays a better Ren. In my opinion the more modern version of the movie is a lot more up beat.

Bring it On: All or Nothing The film I chose to watch is the third installment of the Bring It On series, which are all mostly unrelated stories loosely held together by the thread of cheerleading as a main plot point. I went with the third movie, released in 2006, because it attempts to have something to say about race, and was actually written by a black woman, though whether it survived rewrites and succeeds or not is to be questioned later. The basic plot is that the lead character, Britney, is the captain of the cheerleading squad at a very white, suburban school called Pacific Vista.
