Thomas the main character puts heroic scenarios to the extreme when he runs into the moving maze to save the leader Alby. Only a true hero or a maze runner is capable of doing this, Thomas happens to be one of them. Thomas was also the first to kill a Griever. As Thomas and another maze runner Minho had to stay the night in the maze, they had to fight for their lives. No one has ever stayed the night in the maze and survived.

In James Dashner’s The Maze Runner, the main protagonist, Thomas, battles for what he thinks is right, by acting before he thinks, and not by what he is told, showing that making decisions should come from the heart for what feels right and not what is mandated or forced.
Thomas finally found his calling as a writer. But, Thomas didn’t start off in the colonies great, he came off a boat sick and with a disease. He survived this unlike many others he was wrapped in a blanket and carried off a boat. A doctor volunteered to take care of him.
