Pretty Woman Pretty Woman, a film directed by Garry Marshall, follows a not-so-typical love story of a hooker, Vivian and a wealthy man, Edward. Vivian is a nice woman just looking to make money to live on by means of prostitution on the Hollywood strip. Edward pulls up in a nice car on the side of the strip; Vivian, needing to make ends meet, goes to his car to offer her service. After watching the film a second time I realized that the opera house has a lot of red besides Vivian’s dress but it is never really noticed because all eyes are on Vivian. One big thing I noticed is the way Hollywood Boulevard has changed. It is still dirty and there are a lot of people but it is more kid friendly now. Clothing plays a big part in the film. We see two very different styles in the film as we see the rich and we see normal people. You notice a lot of storytelling through the clothes being worn. The film’s opening shows us Edward and other businessmen in greys and black; having a boring conversation. The lack of color in this scene shows the lack of emotion. I thought the film was so beautiful and made my heart happy. Not only do I love Julia Roberts but the film was innocent and warmhearted; it really was about two people getting to know each other. When the movie opened that is not what I thought it was going to be about. I really enjoyed the ‘Cinderella’ feel to the film. I think movies today are more focused on people meeting each other and instantly falling in love. This film is different and I think that’s why I like it so much. Vivian and Edward are on strict business terms for a while and they just talk. No funny business. They just get to know each other and I think that is a reason this movie is so well-liked and why it is so innocent. By the end of the movie I was very happy Edward went to Vivian’s house and I was almost saying, “Go! Get her back!” I can believe this film was an instant classic when it came out in
