“My mom never let me play video games growing up, so now I do. Gaming gives me a chance to just let go, blow someone up, and fight someone from another dimension. It’s all escapism,” states Wayne Brady, comedian and game lover. In 1972, a game called Pong became the most popular video game, as well as the most graphic. Since then more video games came and went, each one bringing better graphics and game play to the table. As the games improved, they brought along violence such as killing and blood. The incident that happened in Washington D.C. where a decorated military veteran named Aaron Alexis opened fire at the Washington Navy Yard on Monday, September 16, 2013, in a burst of violence that killed 13 people including himself, was not caused by video games (Charles). Many people, male and female, adult and child, play video games. Young men and women who play video games get absorbed and can not understand what goes on in the outside world, yet they know the difference between the real world and the digital world. They know that they can’t go to stores and break things without consequences (Hitchens). That shows the differences between this world and the digital one; every action leads to a consequence. Some people, however, do not know the difference between the two. Some individuals become too immersed into the game which makes the game become a reality. This way the game becomes like a drug to the gamer. It becomes an obsession, and soon the gamer thinks he can do everything he can in a game.
