I was watching the movie Finding Dory and in the movie there’s a fish named Dory and she suffers from short term memory loss. She forgets things very quickly and it’s mostly the recent experiences. If she does something recent she will forget it, but if it is something that happened years ago she can remember those things more frequently. In the movie, she tries to remember her parents after she finds out she left them by accident. So therefore I decided to choose my essay over short term memory loss.
The book defines the true definition of short term memory loss as “Short term memory loss is an impaired ability to form new episodic memories.” Which, the simplified version of that definition is he or she can remember incidents from 20 years ago but is fuzzy on the details of things that happened 20 minutes prior. Scientists say that the short term memory is located in the prefrontal cortex, it is the site that is activated when we are using our working memories. So exactly what kind of work goes on in this area? One important process is the application of memory strategies. Some people wonder how do doctors actually test for short term memory loss is that they medical history test and then ask a few questions to the patient. Some exams include cognitive testing to check the patient’s mental status and his or her ability to think. The doctor could also run blood tests to check for various conditions. You can even improve your short term memory. Scientists say to improve it is by using “mnemonics” which is the technique of attaching a word, phrase or even an image. Examples of one of the tests are remembering how many days are in a month, or remember things like the name of a person. Doing activities with your brain such as playing Sudoku or finishing crossword puzzles can help improve you
