After reading this essay extensively, I can say that I agree with Paxson, simply because I am bias to the arts. I grew up with a cousin publishing three books before the age of eighteen, a mother who could spend days in the theatre, and a father who relieves stress by strumming his guitar. I myself have participated in theatre and choir. I have gained many skills from both theatre and choir that some would argue have nothing to do with either. In choir, math is required to keep rhythm and to know how beats to hold a note.

With the author being unknown, but we see that the author uses clear examples on why the arts is being cut over another curriculum. Throughout this article the author tends to use more pathos than anything with personal experiences to invoke the reader to do something over the budget cuts.
Why should students be required to take an arts class? Arts is where students can show their artistic abilities or their musical talents to everyone else. Students should be required to take an arts class because those classes can open up more career opportunities, the students in the class work together in groups, and the student can show their ability to do different things that maybe someone else can’t do. The first reason as of why the class should be required is the class could open up more career opportunities in the future.
Cooking and computer science are beneficial to the students because in cooking electives shows how students, teachers, and principals are seeing how cooking electives help students experience and support critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills and with computer science learning to code can open future opportunities, sharpen your mind, and be a lot of fun these electives help us in many other ways and are beneficial to students future. Yet if students participate in a music elective there have been studies that there are benefits in participating in a music program. Music students also tend to score higher on their SAT scores and also have higher graduation rates among the positives for students who play musical instruments. Therefore the school board should keep music because it prepares students for their future and helps them score higher on tests and one of the biggest test there is which would be the SAT scores and more students are graduating because of the music elective they took. There are many advantages associated with the music elective.
I know that creativity and the art is very important material for children to learn at a early age. Also in the creativity and art area they are able to figure out different problem and then are able to solve them. In the art area it can help boost their child self confidence and self esteem while in the classroom. One way I will suggestion to the families and caregivers is to make sure that their activities are age appropriate. The second suggestion I will make sure that they have enough room to explore and developing their gross motor skils.

It’s been proven many times that music activities help students in a variety of ways, so it is essential to take advantage of the resources that are available to further their success. It may cost more money, but it is a well-invested way to support students. First off, music activities boost students’ performances in other school subjects, whether it be grades, standardized test scores, or other classwork. Art Education Cuts in American Schools In a recent study taking place in 2008 we have discovered that eighty percent of schools nationwide have made budget cuts to their public education programs (Boyd 1).Why are eighty percent of public schools facing funding decreases and how are they cutting out arts programs to keep funds in education? Throughout America, school systems have decided to reduce the budget of or completely cut the art programs in public schools. (don’t know where to put this) With the recent economic downturn in 2007-2009, states have made budget cuts in public K-12 education systems. With the statewide budgets being decreased, less money is available to be spread amongst the individual counties.
There is a problem with a lot of schools; the administrators think that the fine arts are not as important as sports they cut funding for The fine arts and to give that funding to the sports, this is a problem because the fine arts courses are you please important the students and teachers and schools.
