The bravest are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before them, glory and danger alike, and yet notwithstanding, go out to meet it. –Thucydides. The United States of America is always at war, war with fire. The United States firemen have been battling these fires since this country was founded. I am interested in this job because I want to go out every day and make in a difference in people's lives all across the country. Because firefighting is a dangerous job, it appeals to me very much. Firefighting would be a great job for any individual who is willing to put in the work and risk their life to help others.

"When there's not an immediate emergency, you must help with upkeep of the fire station, including ensure that fire engines and emergency vehicles are in working condition, perform routine safety drills, test equipment and make sure supplies are ready for use" (prospects.ac.uk). Even though it may be difficult, the high level activity of a firefighter can make the work day go by much quicker. Most firefighters never get bored or are without a task. "the average firefighter works 10 full-day shifts a month, allowing for 20 or so off-duty days each month" (Ifsta 17). The life of a firefighter can usually be described as lax. The 20 off days a firefighter obtains each month is a great upside on a family and social perspective. Being home for several days at a time is nice, although the work schedule may include not seeing family members for several days at a time. "The high level of activity is an advantage that can help you stay physically fit, but it can also be tiring and require a good deal of self-discipline" (prospects.ac.uk). The great physical shape most firemen are in is a great advantage that most jobs lack. A healthier life means a longer and happier life, because health is important, it can contribute to a more stable work
