As a first generation college student a trait I need to succeed is to be dedicated, and not allow others bring down. Dedication is a trait that can only be seen by those who are closer to you and see you work through every obstacle. Exemplifying this trait is a challenge because sometime all my dedication is not reflected in the outcome. Those outcomes that I am not so satisfied become a learning experience. Talking about a single trait that I need to succeed is not that easy because as a first generation college student you need to have many traits to help you reach your goals. To me being dedicated to your school work is the most important because so many people tell you you won’t be able to go to college and earn a degree. Having the ability to ignore those comments and just focus on your own path is essential. Each and everyday the improvement is barely noticeable, but in the long term it shows how much we have grown. Like I mentioned before we first generation college students don’t know the obstacles we will face in college, but because of those obstacles our dedication is reflected. If we were not as dedicated to what we wanted, we would have probably stopped at the first obstacle we faced. To me dedication is something I work on everyday. For me dedication it is not only fueled by the negative comments of others, but also how much my parents work to help me get through college. I am aware of their struggles and how difficult it is on them for me to pursue my degree, so in a way I feel like I am rewarding them by giving it all I got.
