Flat characters are not described in depth and you are not given much information about them. They do not have many characteristics about them which I think would make them boring characters. Round characters are described in more depth than flat characters. They have more detail in them and the main character or characters are usually well – rounded. Static characters remain the same throughout the story and do not undergo any changes or very little change. Dynamic characters go through a significant change sometime throughout the story. It is a change in personality and attitude. The climax for Cross' character comes as the soldiers are camped in a Vietnamese waste field and his turning on of a flashlight triggers an ambush, killing Kiowa. Cross begins questioning himself if he could have prevented Kiowa's death and if he is truly fit to lead Alpha company. This causes him to reevaluate his actions as a leader and person, hardening his character to where he burns the picture of Martha and begins leading his men in a no nonsense fashion. Queenie is a static character because throughout the short story she remains the same. She has a thing for attention and owning the place in the sense that she is the leader and she is in command.
