Since 9th grade I have been obsessed with the French language and have only dreamed of getting to, one day, travel to Paris. Getting to meet and talk to Flavie Jovet was probably the closest I will ever get to visit France but it was such an amazing experience. Flavie is such a sweet girl and it was so satisfying to ask her about France, what it’s like there, and how it compares to the US. Before I even met Flavie I could tell she was from France. As she and the other international students stood in the front of Professor Bobby’s classroom I could see her standing at the front of the group. I specifically remember glancing at her and immediately noticing that she was wearing a sweater, but not in the way most people do. She was wearing it …show more content…
Flavie told me that she had to have surgery on her eye right before she came to the US and she didn’t even have to pay anything for it. Again, this is such an amazing aspect of their country because they are keeping everyone healthy and provided for. Now, all of this “free” stuff isn’t exactly free. Everyone in France has to pay taxes, which help pay for the free education, healthcare, and other benefits. I’m not exactly sure of the politics behind the tax system or how it compares to ours, and neither was Flavie, but I honestly wouldn’t mind if we had that here in America. In France, people just push past you.” She also described how “When you walk down the street someone always smiles and says hello.”
“Wow, that’s not what I would have expected!” I told her.
She went on to tell me about how the people in Paris are the worst. She warned me that if I ever went to France to not go to Paris. Apparently the people there are very rude and they really don’t like tourists. I don’t remember the name of the city she lives in but it’s a smaller city and she says it’s much nicer than Paris. I told her that I would definitely have to come visit if I ever made it to France!
Flavie was such a sweet person and I loved listening to her charming French accent. It was such a cool experience to be able to interview her about what it’s like in France, especially since I’ve always wanted to go there. As I finished up my questions she told me that she would love to talk and get together again. She explained that she loves making friends and that she’s made a lot here at Wright State
