Socrates was born in 470 BCE of a mother who was a mid-wife, and a father who was a stonecutter. Socrates himself followed his father’s path and lived as a stonemason in the city of Athens, Greece. While growing up as a young man, Socrates was known as an intellectual spirit who thought freely and questioned the world and its practices. He and a few other philosophers, which one was his brilliant student, began the wisdom of Western philosophy. Although he was very intelligent, Socrates did not write a single form of philosophy. Through dialect and an exchange of his ideas, what Socrates had preached during his time has been passed down by his student Plato. Individuals are unique and carry a different range of ideas and beliefs. Some may like to argue that one must find love in order to have a happy and fulfilled life. Since there are those that would oppose that statement, the Socratic method would be ideal. Why does one have to find love in order to be happy? Why cannot one find happiness within their selves? Is it not possible for one to live alone and be happy and fulfilled? What is the true meaning of happiness? As these are just a few reasonable questions to depict the flaws in the statement “one must find love in order to find happiness.” Not everyone needs to find love in order to be happy and satisfied with their life. Manu individuals are content with being alive and waking up every morning simply makes them happy. As well, a lot of people may argue that you cannot love someone else if at first you do not love yourself, and loving yourself should bring happiness. Socrates also once said, “He who is not contented with what he has, would not be content with what he would like to have.” I believe if those are not content with themselves, they will not be content with someone
