If the streets are flooded, the community will not have a way to get around town. Even though there are 31 grocery stores located in St. John County, (St. Augustine, Florida. 2013); with the streets being flooded how would people be able to get to the stores for food? Flooding affects the children who receive free or reduce meals at school. How will those children be able to eat? Due to the flooding, St. Johns Service Center, which assist single mothers with assistance, will not be able to receive their help with assistances.
While circumstances can vary, an individual’s first choice is rarely to choose homelessness due to the inability to afford housing or other unforeseen circumstances. The support of friends, family, and community programs/shelters are first suggestions when a person becomes displaced. When these suggestions become inadequate, living on the streets is the next favorable/affordable option. According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, on a night in January of 2015, there were 564,708 people homeless in the United States (para 3).

The Everglades used to be a beautiful place that was home to many rare endangered species. But thanks to construction, agbusinesses, and draining the Everglades we have destroyed this one beautiful piece of land. To lead off, a mass increase in construction around and in the Everglades lead to a total destruction of it. In “ The Florida Everglades ” it says “ The construction cuts off the flow of fresh water to the Everglades.”
Homeless has been around for a long time. Three different points in history I will discuss are, Pre-Great Depression, The Great Depression, and The 2008 Recession. Homeless has always been apart of America’s History. It has dated back centuries ago. It has also affected much of today’s society.
I think many homeless people are happy to be homeless. Some primary causes of homelessness are lack of affordable housing, unemployment, poverty, and low wages. Homeless adults seem more likely to become homeless because of both choice and circumstance. Children, however, are most likely to be homeless because of circumstances, such as their parents. Due to the recent events, the groups of society have been majorly affected. The flood that happened in South Carolina, not only destroy many homes and family but also changed many of the social group and the socialization by people. Even though the flood affected many people, I personally did not get affected. Where I was at the time did not get hit by the storm, only lost power for an hour or so. Additionally, scientists had been warning New Orleans and the government that climate change would lead to increased storm activity and that the city’s defenses weren’t strong enough for such a storm. However, these warnings were ignored by the government and no preventative measures were taken which has influenced the effects of the storm. The reason for the poor response of the government and their negligence of the warnings is arguable. However, it is positive that the reason for this is that the majority of the people affected were the poor, and mostly colored, citizen of New Orleans. The city is racially and economically segregated and these citizen lived in the lower parts of the city, which go down to 11 feet below sea level.

A homeless child is an individual without permanent housing who may live on the streets, abandoned buildings, vehicles or an individual who doubled up (where individuals are unable to maintain their housing situation and are forced to stay with a series of friends or extended family member). The most recent flood occur in Kuching, Sarawak where heavy rainfall caused some areas around Kuching to be inundated by flood waters and most roads became congested as they were impassable to traffic.
